I’m am curious Jeff , how do you get October 1983 outta this number ?? 5985590
5985590 is the cylinder head casting number (part number), which has nothing to do with the date.

The casting date stamp is what shows October 1983 on this head. It's a little symbol that looks like a sun, with the year of manufacture in the center (83 for 1983) & a certain number of dots around the perimeter (each dot represents 1 month, so 10 dots = 10 months = October). The date stamp looks like this:

You'll often see this on large cast alloy parts like cylinder heads, intake manifolds & on the back of Cromodora alloy wheels.
