The two I am looking at are the AVS Intermediate which everyone knows already, and the A008, which is apparently standard issue on Porsche. They list the A008 as being a slightly higher performance tire than the AVS Intermediate, but the tread pattern looks nowhere near as aggressive and the construction details are the same. I have five inch rims and Intermediates are offered in 185/60VR. A008's are 175/50VR. I plan to be doing some autocrossing soon. What says the forum???<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Both of these are specifically labeled "SCCA SpecRacer" and are a road race compound, harder than the autocross compound, but still way softer than even the softest street compound. They use a 185/60 in the front and a 205/60 in the rear.
I used both during the '00 autocross/hillclimb season and found that they worked respectably well when warm, not so good when cold, as would be expected for a roadrace compound. They are a nice street tire too...great in the dry and not bad in damp...avoid monsoons tho'! I put 2000 miles on mine this year.
The best part is the price, about $25-35 each for a tire with 50-75% of its 6/32 OE tread depth. Or maybe even free if you hangout with SpecRacer guys... Or buy new at about $70 each. Not the best autocross tire, but better than AVS. Natch the AVS is gonna last longer...you pays your money and takes your choices.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

The plain 008R is an ancient design (not bad, just old) the 008R and RS were/are very sticky versions of the 008 made specifically for autocross/track use. You could use them on the street but they sure won't last long! I used the AVS-I on a different car (non-Fiat)and consider them excellent - even made it through a Seattle winter on them.
The 175/50 size is really too short for the street, your gearing will be very low with those. 185/60 i've found to be the best all-around size, especially if you're using 5 inch wheels. I'm not aware of 032R in appropriate X1/9 sizes. The 032R is similar to the 008RS.
