What a coincidence, I saw that this afternoon. It was my motivation to do some faux hillclimbing in my Fatrat.

I doubt it is a SOHC engine in this car. It sounds like a NA Alfa Romeo 2l, and it sounds good.

There are a lot of X1/9 hill climb cars in action on the Tube. Some clearly have motorcycle engines (extreme rpm and sequential shifters).
They all seem to have massive wings on the back.

I know I read somewhere that the massive wing on at least one X1/9 was more for smoothing out the airflow for the abruptly chopped rear end than for downforce. I guess it would depend what you were planning to do with the car.
