What did you do to your X1/9 today ?

Took the 1300 out for a 100 mile round trip yesterday, first major runout since rebuilding the pedal box. Found a lovely pub just outside Oxford over looking the river Cherwell. Good food and beer!

Putting the car back in the garage I find it easier to push it back into place hard up against one wall as we need access to the rear of the garage from the other side, whilst pushing I accidentally pushed against one of the rear rubber overriders, it fell off! As if I needed anymore convincing of the incompetence of the garage that carried out a so called restoration on this car....just glad it wasn’t me who paid for it!

The rear mounting bolt had sheared at some point and somebody took it upon themselves to stick it back on rather than fashion a more permanent solution like...drilling out the bolt or maybe drilling and tapping a new thread...

Clearly it is not how good it actually is, it is how good it looks. If it looks maahhvelous then it is good...

Also, great looking spot for a beer and a nosh.

After having the alternator peg the volt meter and cause the belt to squeal like a pig, I installed the new voltage regulator.

I had to jack the car up to use a small cold chisel to get one of the screws loosened. Those screws have very shallow straight blade driver heads that it is easy to round out. Happy to have it done though my voltmeter reads a bit lower than it used to...

Word to the wise, when the rear access panel in the trunk is off, tighten the belt so you don’t have to remove it again just after you put it back on. Just saying.

Not for mine, but for a member here... Brendan Ryan your head is next for assembly...

Karl, I'm assuming you have the Bosch alternator. As you know, the regulators for them is a very common part that fits a ton of their units for countless vehicles over decades of production. I've found the same, the regulator output does vary a bit from one to the next. I think it has to do with production variances; they are produced at numerous plants all around the world, and naturally there are many different (non Bosch) makers of them as well. There is a method of making the output level "adjustable" with a mod. I've never tried it and frankly I'm not even sure if it is a legitimate mod; not being a electronics expert I really can't say, but it sort of seems a bit questionable to me. Here is a discussion about it from the VW community (sorry, it is the usual Vortex rambling):

And here is a Volvo specialist that offers them:

Please tell me what you think.

Yeah yeah yeah. For the past 4 years i have been having flashbacks to the dead wings. But i am not a fair weather fan. Proof of that is i also like the crappy tigers and the inaanely sucky lions.

Didnt do the lawn yet. Went for a drive! 360 usually doesnt work in embeded links so you may have to open it in youtube directly.

I didn't understand what you meant by "360". It took me a few minutes to notice the controls at the top. Very cool. I guess that is a special camera?

Samsung gear 360. Got it free a couple years ago with my note 8. Not sure i use it enough to have bought it. But as long as it was free, why not.

This could be a real boon, particularly the one that is adjusted at the rear of the alternator. Price is decent as well.
