So after fixing the idle issue and getting a couple short joy rides I noticed it was running hot so took a look at the thermostat and found the thermostat housing corroded, the rear tube passage blocked, and the remote petcock completely blocked preventing coolant flow. The drain bolt actually snapped off when trying to drain the system. Luckily these parts are easy to find and was a relatively easy fix. I replaced all the hoses and flushed out the system. Unfortunately the heater control valve and matrix are not working and will need to be replaced but I bypassed the heater core to keep driving the car until the parts arrive.
