1543 Restoration begins

Dean Scharer

True Classic
I purchased this car from Antonio Quijalvo’s estate. Its last owner was in Colorado. Tony had collection a massive amount of items to properly restore “his baby”, but sadly died before he could even begin the process. It came with a Volumex engine, an additional Volumex compressor, European bumpers, two bubble tops, and the lower front bumper extensions. Additional parts cubed out the back of my truck. Without the help of Chris (Spaghetti Western Subaru build on You Tube), I could have gotten it all loaded for a quick turn around back to Washington State. I’m going on the record to state I plan on its completion in 4 years time. Full bare metal tear down and Volumex power plant. Not as sexy as a K24 nor as powerful, but I’ve always wanted to attempt the classic build.

It was for sale for a while. I'm glad someone finally made a deal on it. Lots of good parts. I'm picking up my project this weekend. Looking forward to following along with yours.

This is a great project and I look forward to following it. I have two projects before I can really dig into my 1977 but in the meantime I keep collecting the parts I need for the Alfa swap. Seems like so many of these cars come with a collection of parts, which is very useful. Dean, we may end calling you the Eddy Tuason of the west coast, doesn't this put your current fleet at 3 Scorpions and one Zagato?

Two Zagato and three Scorpions. I am currently standing in line at the psychiatric hospital to be admitted for help!

engine pulled and now for the body work. I have two spare doors and it came with door skins as well. I plan on fitting the spares and hope they fit well. I’d prefer not to go through the hassle with the door skins. No matter what, these doors are shot.

Strange the doors are so bad and the fenders and quarters don't look bad. How are the floors?
Floors are in good shape. I thing the weep holes were never cleared in the doors which lead to this issue.Hard to tell for sure. The previous owner acquired the car in Colorado

Good head is where you find it I guess...

Doesn't look too bad for bodywork. I'd trade my bodywork skills for better wrenching skills, but I guess that's what friends are for : )

I wonder if that right front fender suffered from the battery sitting behind it?
