A project sort of fell into my lap last week, a 1972 Fiat Special 4-door sedan. It has a OHV push-rod engine and 4-speed manual.

The engine bay needs some clean up:

The trunk is huge:

Not sure what my plans are with it. So far I've spent several hours fixing a no-run condition which was part broken coil, part bad rotor/cap, part bad gas. I put in my Scorpion's former 124 block mount dizzy with a Pertronix magnetic coil and it runs now. Other work so far includes a fresh filter, fresh gas, carb bowl cleaning, general cleaning and tidying. It will likely need a fresh battery and other basics. Here's the fuel filter I replaced:

Fancy wheels:

It sat for nearly a year and was becoming a burden to the former owner, a fellow FEN member. After thousands of dollars of work it still needs a lot to make it better, and I can understand their needing to find it a better home. It can be hard when you don't do your own work.

For the short term I plan to get it reliable, fixing little problems it has and then decide what to do about paint, etc. The body is so rough that it would make a good rust/rat rod type beater. Might be fun.

According to the previous owner, Hagerty has one '72 Fiat Special on it's books, this one.

One thing I'm doing is restoring the evap emissions system. The charcoal canister is missing. The plumbing is there, but plugged... this creates vacuum in the fuel tank that can cause bad running. If anyone has a lead on a metal or plastic charcoal canister of the cylindrical shape variety, I'm in the market for one. With bracket if possible, looks like the car's bracket was removed with a saw.

Not a bad looking car. I have always like these, prefer the 7" headlights personally, but a great three box sedan.

Lots can be done with these, particularly with a proper Lampredi twin cam and a five speed...
