We arrived at Button willow yesterday afternoon, found where our X was pitted. I had a chat with Chris & Pel about how the car was working after the revised front splitter and cooling system revisions.
Previous to this the X was running about 210 in just over 100 degrees ambient temp, with the revisions, the car is now running just a bit over 190 degrees in similar conditions on that days test run. I did a check over of the car once again to deal with loose wiring, checked and tightened various nuts, bolts, hose fittings and clamps.
The X sailed passed LeMons Tech no problems.
Once all this was completed, we all headed off for the local Motel 6, din din and rest for race day.
Race day started with breakfast and a short drive to the track. We got our transponder and installed it, then did a quick once over on the check list again. During the driver's meeting, I took a walk around the pit area to see what other cars were here. There were a bunch of BMW E30's, two SAAB 900s, That motorcycle powered Metro, a real Mini, Sprite, TR7, various Hondas, various VW wabbits, various Miatas, V8 Volvos, Cameros, 5.0L Mustangs and .....
Our transponder did not work which resulted in the car coming in to correct this problem. Once, this as fixed, the green flag dropped and the race began. Two hours has elapsed and one driver change and the X is running strong a problem free. Ambient temps are just under 100 degrees. The drivers have been instructed to stay out of trouble and don't push the X any harder than required. Within the first hour, there were already numerous cars with over heating problems, faulty wiring, leaks and etc... It's going to be a L-O-N-G day..
I'll try and post some photos later today.
