64 600D Hotrod

True Classic
Hi Folks, I recently purchased my 64 Fiat 600 (Pistachio) forum.retro-rides.org/thread/160385/rear-engined-fiat-projects
It’s a hotrod with quite a few upgrades. It’s got a 903cc motor with a hot cam and PBS water pump and an electric X1/9 fan on the recored radiator. Runs and drives but needs some fine tuning and maybe an electronic ignition system? It's got lowered 850 spindles & disc brakes, Abarth 1000 reverse-eye front spring and lowered rear coils, I don’t have a clear goal in mind about how i'd like to build it, yet. I’ll probably address the front trunk rot below the spare tire area and in the right rear quarter panel, hammer out the dings and dents and move on from there. I don’t think I’ll flare it as the body is in really nice shape. I'd feel bad cutting it. More to come later.

That looks like a candidate for a pair of bike engines! Or maybe two Arctic Cat 800 2T engines...... But then I don't mind swaps.

Was thinking of doing a full A112 build. I know Chris O. has one ready to build and no need for reversing the rotation.👍🏻

Hi Folks, I recently purchased my 64 Fiat 600 (Pistachio)...
Congrats! I had thought of buying this car several times over the last few years, but space & cash were always elusive. Plus the fact that I should really just get my own car back together & running before I add another to the lineup...

I saw/heard this car a few years back when Michael (the previous owner) had done a bit of work to get it running well, sounded awesome thanks to that megaphone exhaust (if you ever want to sell the exhaust, I'll gladly buy it back! I sold it to Michael back then & have regretted it ever since).

Thx Jeff! I’ve been looking for a while now for a rear engine Fiat and almost bought an 850 sedan in Huntington Beach. I’m glad I passed on that one. Mike was trailering his 600 down to SoCal for some suspension work & I intercepted it. Glad I did. It’s just what I was looking for, a hot-rodded little monster. Mike continues to be gracious and give me info on the car and other build ideas (as this is my 1st Fiat). I’ve got it registered here in CA so no issues there. Only had an Oregon title and I needed a VIN verified. Liz at Boulevard Registration (Torrance) took care of all that and I picked up my CA plates/stickers that afternoon. This is going to be fun, Mike sold me a great base to build. I’m sure I’ll be asking many questions of the Fiat experts on the Xweb.
Oh, and about the exhaust, sorry but Mike decided to keep the secondary portion (muffler and megaphone) and gave me the straight pipe. I’ve ordered a 12” small muffler and I’ll weld it up next week.

Welded up the exhaust this weekend. Had to shorten the megaphone Mike gave me, but it sounds good! My neighbors may not be too thrilled...

Also made a spare plug caddy for the engine compartment.

What is a possible source for that exhaust tip?
I've seen them offered before. I was thinking from one of the stainless exhaust component suppliers I use, but looking on their sites I don't see it (however they often have more things that aren't on the site). While looking at those sites I stumbled on these two from other sources. Perhaps not ideal but might be what you want:

Mike, I've seen your BMW around the Sbay. Get the fiat going soon to join the local shows.

Hi John, I’ve seen your 850 coupe and 600 as well, both really nice!
I’m working on getting my 600 on the road👍🏻 I may ask you for some guidance since you have a wealth of knowledge on these great cars! I hope you don’t mind! And you’re local👍🏻 I want to revamp the brakes since they’re a bit spongy.
Mike

Finally boxed the seat adjusters and installed my seats. These mismatched seats will have to do for now, until I can afford a set of nice vintage sport seats. They’re so expensive these days.

Man that thing has so much potential. It could be finished a thousand different ways and still be a cool car.

Cleaned up the gauge pod and ordered some 3796 bulbs. Just waiting for them to arrive so I can reinstall it. (I have a separate coolant temp gauge).

Started making my first set of hood props based on a set the previous owner lent me...more to come as I weld them up & maybe make jigs to make assembly easier. I made a small sheet metal brake to bend the feet pieces. I used my shrinker/stretcher to curve the middle foot to mimic the body contour. I’m making 8 sets total, that’s the plan anyway.

What is a possible source for that exhaust tip?
I have a pink exhaust tip like this available. I bought a pair off ebay when I was building my Abarth 850 TC replica. Has a 2" inlet. Needs the paint (powder coated I think) media blasted off. We moved earlier this year and it's buried in a box somewhere and would take a bit of digging to find it.
