'74 X, 1500 conversion questions

An aquaintence from years back contacted me last week and wants to give me his '79X w/carbed 1500. The head gasket is blown in it but beyond that I don't know much at the moment.

I intend to x-plant the entire drive train into the '74, 1300 I have, since it was pointed out to me by reliable sources that this is required. One person mentioned keeping the early lower cross member and motor mount. Another, the exhaust, since mine exits left.

Are the struts different? The car needs to be lowered also. I used the IAP reds on my '75 but found the ride to be a bit stiff. I have never shortend springs before but maybe that's not the answer either.
