Since it was off center and ugly, I got a different early engine cover.

The problem is that the '78 cover has a different type of mount for the support. I've never seen a '78 support, just the '74/'75/'?? with the pin, plastic bushing, and the spring/slider doohickey.

What does the engine cover support look like for the '78? Is it able to mount on a '75 without modification? If so, does anyone have one for sale?

Right now I have a custom support, a 1/2" dowel about 3' long that stows perfectly in the rear trunk. Doesn't exactly look great, but it works!

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Hi Ripley, My77 has a 1/4" rod with a 90 degree bend on both ends. The bottom is spring loaded and mounts to the firewall. The top hooks into a bracket on the lid. Mine didn't open far enough so I made a new one a little longer out of 1/4" coldroll steel. Works great. Hope this helps. <!-- google_ad_section_start -->Of course the STICK method works and I've seen some real high-tech "sticks" out there!

I lean towards the "cleaner" appearance of the later model Bertones and a junker would be needed to provide the hinges, support spring, and filler panels for the gas cap and shield on the right side that typically covers the electronic ignition.

I would imaging some drilling would be needed but probably little or NO fabrication would be necessary.
