850 Motor Mount Question

I think it has to do with the mount itself. The Coupe/sedan mount has a spring crammed in with the rubber donuts. The spring makes the unit 'wobble' more. The brace may be an attempt to eliminate that.
The spider/sport arrangement looses the spring, uses a larger casting and a bigger donut.

Just my guess.

That is correct.

The spring adds a notable amount of compliance which the torque arm minimizes to some degree. It allows vertical compliance with little side to side motion

I think the real difference I have seen is that a spider rear panel is much more likely to have the mount torn and with stress cracks around the mount.
