#9 fuse in the '74

Daily Driver
The number 9 fuse blows the minute I hook up the battery. It is my understanding that it controls the hazard lights and the cigarette lighter. I took the console out and checked the wiring and saw no bare wires. I disconnected the hazard light switch and the cigarette lighter and it still blows out the fuse. I have considered forgetting it because I don't smoke anyway. But I would prefer to fix the problem as it may be affecting something else.

I also removed the ignition switch as the blue wire had melted. I repaired that and replaced the ignition switch. No change.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you
Ron

Is #9 different for the 74 vs 75,76,77,78?

Hi Ron,

Is the fuse panel layout in a 74 different from other early Xs? I guess it wouldn't be too surprising.

The online shop manual says that fuse #9/I (16 amp) is for the right headlight motor. Scroll down to the end of this section to look at the early model panel layout and the descriptions:
