Another X1/9 in Toronto

Come Sail Away

Low Mileage
I have been looking for a late model X1/9 since returning to Canada in 2018, and posted about it here 2-3 years ago. I finally found my dream car online last summer. The car was in the Netherlands, and has an Uno Turbo MK1 engine swap. I bought the car, sight unseen and without an inspection after Henk Martens vouched for the owner, whom he had known for years. Henk even knows the person who did the engine swap on the car.

The car finally arrived earlier this week. I am unable to start her since the battery is dead, understandable given she has been in a container and various warehouses for almost two months. I will have her safety inspected and registered in the next few weeks. Just in time for summer.

I know there are few members in the GTA. Hope to cross paths in the near future.

Albert

Congrats!! Love the colour!!! Great to see another well sorted X in the GTA. I’m in Toronto.

Thanks everyone.

BTW, anyone with a spare trunk lid they want to sell or trade? Mine has a luggage rack. I am going to remove it and install a rear wing (pure vanity, I know) in lieu. Don’t want to patch the holes and then drill another two holes. Chris Obert has a few trunk lids, but I would prefer a local deal to avoid shipping and the horrendous exchange rate.

Really too bad about shipping these days. I have a trunk lid (with rear wing "holes") and a rear wing I have no plans to use.

Hello Albert,

Good to hear from you
Did you already drive your X 1/9 Turbo?
Gert van Koten (our X 1/9 specialist in the Netherlands) did his very best to build and install this Uno Turbo engine in your "Dutch" X 1/9
For now he is building another Bertone 1987 with a complete reconditioned Uno Turbo engine and about 150 Bhp
We have about 15 X 1/9 with the Uno Turbo engine in our club (150 members)
I wish you all the best

That is a beauty. Lovely car. Sounds like quite the zippy toy.

Welcome to the forum.

Hello Henk,

I drove the car from the parking garage to the front parking lot in my building yesterday to do some cleaning under the sun. The car has not been safety inspected or registered in Ontario, so I cannot legally drive it on the road yet.

It took roughly eight months from my first inquiry to actually accepting delivery of the car in Toronto. I can attest to all the positive comments you heaped on the previous owner. He is such a knowledgeable and honest gentlemen. And he is still helping me with getting acquainted to the car that he obviously took great care of.

Looking forward to having my X out in the open road.
