Any idea where this might belong?

I found this on the floor under my 179 124 2000 with automatic transmission. I had just started and moved the car on a very cold day. It looks like a relief valve/breather for an axle. The top, large end, is lose and air flows both ways. Thanks.

arts, thanks. That is what I think. I just have not found where. I might add that this is also an automatic transmission.

Andy, thanks. That indeed might be it. I have since checked and that valve was missing and fit right in. Thanks for you help.
