Battery...

Battery crapped out today, less than a year old. Under pro-rated warranty, NAPA replaced it for ~$30. Frustrating. Showed charged according to my "smart" charger but wouldn't hold a charge. Thank the Gods for receipts.

Was it a quality, name brand "smart" charger?

Those trickle chargers from HF for $4.99 are death to batteries as far as I can tell. I've never had a bad experience with Battery Tender products though.

A mechanic friend of mine confirms that battery quality has dropped off a cliff in the past 3-4 years. He now considers them expendable at 24-36 months. A year is damned egregious though.

New battery holds at 12.7v. Cranks quickly and starts immediately! Old one must have had a bad cell or something.
