Bleeding clutch system

The hydraulic system on my X has a slow leak. I haven't been able to pinpoint it yet, but when the car sits for awhile, the clutch pedal goes completely dead.

I've bled it with a suction-style power bleeder before but I no longer have access to such a device. I'm thinking about trying a "speed bleeder" (like this: http://www.speedbleeder.com) on the slave cylinder.

Have any of you tried this?

thanks

Yes. Works fine, and the size that you'd use for the brakes works for the clutch as well. I don;t remember what that size is, but the list on the speedbleeder web site is correct, so you can buy whatever they tell you to use for the brakes.

You'll want to find the leak eventually of course... If it is letting air into the system and you cannot find fluid escaping anywhere, I'd suspect the connection between the reservoir hose and the master cylinder.

thanks!

good info. I'm planning to check the system over real thoroughly once I get it bled. There's some moisture around the MC but it doesn't seem like enough to account for the amount of fluid it loses.

Slave looks good as do the rest of the lines though, so we'll see.
