First, with my lights off, and my brake lights on, if I turn on the left turn signal, my brake light (left one) flashes, but my actual indicator does not. If I realease the brake, the turn signal comes on, and my brake lights go off. With my lights on, the rear turn signal does not work, brake lights on or off, but it does glow a little like it is getting some of the reagular tail light power. Now this is only on the left side. The right side still works fine.
Also, now my horn is comming and going, some days it works some days it doesn't. I check the horn, and it is fine. Also, my radiator cooling fan and left headlight still don't function..

The rear signal/brake light/tail light interference is a textbook case of a bad ground at that light housing.. should be a black wire to all the lights that goes to a body ground. Usually it's loose or corroded at the body connection. Turn all the stuff on, and loosen and tighten that connection.. see if it doesn't all just jump to life. Is it both the high and low beams that don't work, or only one? They each have separate fuses. If both high/low are out, check the ground at the headlight. Otherwise, you'll need to get a cheap meter or test light to check a few things.
Your first thing might be to just clean under any ground wire you see bolted to the chassis around your problem areas. Also, if this turns out to be the problem on most of these items you might want to go ahead and do this on any ground you can find to avoid future problems elsewhere.

Get a long (car length), thick wire and put aligator clips on both ends. When you suspect a bad ground, just ground the component DIRECTLY to the negative terminal on the battery. This way, if it still doesn't work, you can be DAMN sure the problem not with a bad ground, but elsewhere. Remember...if the battery ground strap is not secure, everything could be grounded to the body properly but none of it will work. Hope this helps.

I recently replaced the stock ground cable on my '80 X with a FAT 2-gauge ground cable ($8 or so at the local BillyJoBob parts house) and it actually made a noticable difference in the car's behavior!
The lights are all a little bit brighter, the car starts a little bit faster, and that huge cable just looks 'tough'
Next I think I will replace the positive cable as well, and thus give the battery even more 'room to work'

With the car in aux (or running) bridge the two contacts with a piece of wire (HOLD ON TO THE INSULATION OF THE WIRE). If all is otherwise well, the horn will sound. Then you simply need to play with the contacts to get them back into the right position (usually they have flattened out and need to be bent forward).

Even the cheap blue plastic FIAMMs that you see for sale at NAPA produce a sound that is just blissful coming out of an X1/9!
Some folks will pay a lot more & try to find some of the older metal horns, which (in my opinion) is a waste of money to use on the X1/9. They sound so similar that I doubt anyone could tell by hearing them whether they are plastic or metal (especially as LOUD as they are!) and on the X you will never see the horns themselves once they are installed...
I am so addicted to the high-pitched Italian sound of the FIAMMs that I can't imagine owning an X1/9 without them
Since you are having horn issues anyway, why not just pop the bucks & get into some real horns? Once you blast those FIAMMs at some jerk who has drifted into your lane on the freeway with his F-250, or at the 18-wheelers that never seem to notice you as they barrel down on your arse, YOU WILL NEVER GO BACK!
They're only about $30 for the plastic 2-horn set at most auto parts stores, I got mine on clearance for like $10. Honk one time & you will know it was money well spent!

The other side faced forward. Since the car is pretty much original, no major work done, I assume that this is factory. First, with my lights off, and my brake lights on, if I turn on the left turn signal, my brake light (left one) flashes, but my actual indicator does not. If I realease the brake, the turn signal comes on, and my brake lights go off. With my lights on, the rear turn signal does not work, brake lights on or off, but it does glow a little like it is getting some of the reagular tail light power. Now this is only on the left side. The right side still works fine.
Also, now my horn is comming and going, some days it works some days it doesn't. I check the horn, and it is fine. Also, my radiator cooling fan and left headlight still don't function..

The rear signal/brake light/tail light interference is a textbook case of a bad ground at that light housing.. should be a black wire to all the lights that goes to a body ground. Usually it's loose or corroded at the body connection. Turn all the stuff on, and loosen and tighten that connection.. see if it doesn't all just jump to life. Is it both the high and low beams that don't work, or only one? They each have separate fuses. If both high/low are out, check the ground at the headlight. Otherwise, you'll need to get a cheap meter or test light to check a few things.
Your first thing might be to just clean under any ground wire you see bolted to the chassis around your problem areas. Also, if this turns out to be the problem on most of these items you might want to go ahead and do this on any ground you can find to avoid future problems elsewhere.

Get a long (car length), thick wire and put aligator clips on both ends. When you suspect a bad ground, just ground the component DIRECTLY to the negative terminal on the battery. This way, if it still doesn't work, you can be DAMN sure the problem not with a bad ground, but elsewhere. Remember...if the battery ground strap is not secure, everything could be grounded to the body properly but none of it will work. Hope this helps.

I recently replaced the stock ground cable on my '80 X with a FAT 2-gauge ground cable ($8 or so at the local BillyJoBob parts house) and it actually made a noticable difference in the car's behavior!
The lights are all a little bit brighter, the car starts a little bit faster, and that huge cable just looks 'tough'
Next I think I will replace the positive cable as well, and thus give the battery even more 'room to work'

With the car in aux (or running) bridge the two contacts with a piece of wire (HOLD ON TO THE INSULATION OF THE WIRE). If all is otherwise well, the horn will sound. Then you simply need to play with the contacts to get them back into the right position (usually they have flattened out and need to be bent forward).

Even the cheap blue plastic FIAMMs that you see for sale at NAPA produce a sound that is just blissful coming out of an X1/9!
Some folks will pay a lot more & try to find some of the older metal horns, which (in my opinion) is a waste of money to use on the X1/9. They sound so similar that I doubt anyone could tell by hearing them whether they are plastic or metal (especially as LOUD as they are!) and on the X you will never see the horns themselves once they are installed...
I am so addicted to the high-pitched Italian sound of the FIAMMs that I can't imagine owning an X1/9 without them
Since you are having horn issues anyway, why not just pop the bucks & get into some real horns? Once you blast those FIAMMs at some jerk who has drifted into your lane on the freeway with his F-250, or at the 18-wheelers that never seem to notice you as they barrel down on your arse, YOU WILL NEVER GO BACK!
They're only about $30 for the plastic 2-horn set at most auto parts stores, I got mine on clearance for like $10. Honk one time & you will know it was money well spent!

The other side faced forward. Since the car is pretty much original, no major work done, I assume that this is factory. Is this a goof or a cheap way of having a two tone horn using 2 of the same type??
