2re

True Classic
Hi guys. My 1978 1300 is still over at Matt's garage.
I'm considering going bumperless and have the car painted in the original green metalic + the black ladder trim.

Any pictures with the 1300 speciale lader trim is welcome.

here is some...

On different angles, this beauty I took from the internet many years ago, so no owners info...

I hope helps.

Get Matt to add some Euro bumpers

Original green metallic, ladder stripes, Euro bumpers... your X will look real tasty! :)

Or maybe the metallic orangy-red...

I was going to go see your X at Matt's open house next weekend, but I won't be able to get there because I am on vacation with the whole famdamnly this week. :(

Good luck with the resto and I look forward to seeing some pictures of the car after it gets a ready to go.

Ahhhh, Jim, those beaut pics...........!!

I was hoping you would be able to retrieve those pics someone supplied of the Serie Speciale X's a few years ago!! :)

A mounted-on-board print of that pic that you 'tweaked' the colour for me to match my 1300 X (arancio metallic) now adorns the wall directly above the PC in my home 'office' !! :worship:

cheers, Ian - NZ

Thanks Jim

Yes it will be either Euro bumpers or non at all.
I think it will look cool with the ladder stripes and no bumpers, but I've never seen one modified like that before.
I must say I'm a sucker for a aggressive look like this one. Sounds good too :)

One bad thing about going BL is that it might make the car less worth?

I wish, i wish I could be there and say hello to all you good people  Who knows, maybe I'll see you next year Jim :)
2 friends of mine are going for week long stay in NY next month.
They bought tickets for a 4 day Stand Up festival.
Back and forth over the Atlantic, 550$$ Hotel for 1 week is ca 400 each. If I wasn't forking out the cash on my X I would have gone too.

Hi Ian

I still had it in my Photobucket account, but I couldn't remember who I did the color change for. I guess that is what happens when you get old. People always say that something is the first thing to go, but I can't remember what that something is. :)

Not to worry.

I don't think going "bumperless" will hurt the value any more than any other mod. Besides, unless you are planning on selling the car, what do you care about the value! Are you already looking towards the day you sell this car?!?!? ;)

Seriously though. I agonize over the originality of both my Xs all the time, but the truth is these cars will never achieve any type of substantial value. You should buy an X to enjoy it, to play with it and make it your own. If you think going BL is what you want, I say do it. Just don't go bumping into things afterwards. :)

the black ladder trim

If you need the black ladder trim and can't find where to buy here is picture/pattern

Ah, a nice excuse to show these two photos.
Last summer I took them when returning from a nice drive to the coast.
For the moment with bumpers.
Although I would also be curious how it looks without.
I think especially the back would look extra cool.
Hope they help.

You said it well

There's a lot of truth in what you say JimD.
And yes you are correct, I'm not really concerned about how much value I will lose. I bought it first and foremost to have fun driving it. And I would like to give my X a little personal touch.

We all wear the same Italian suit. But with the "right" color and mix of accessories you can make it stand out like 007 at the casino.
A bow tie would be the US bumpers ;-) A tie, the Euro bumpers, open jacket and unbutton shirt is sexy and bumperless :wink2:
Shoes are very important, you don't want to dress up and then put on pair of loafers. A nice pair of Italian shoes will make a bad suit look good, but ugly shoes will ruin any suit.

If I could make a buck or rather two, selling it when I get it back to Norway I would. Money would be used on a Honda conversion.

Thanks Ricardo

This is valuable, not just for me but anyone who wants to put on the ladder stripes.

I hope Henk Martens got them, if not then I'll try the Danish web store. If not available I'll print them like you suggest.

Thank you

Ai ai ai Paul

This was first my car ever, I think I hand washed it every day that summer. A gorgeous speciale you got there Paul.

NOW HOW MUCH YOU WANT FOR IT. I'm dead Serious :help:
Don't worry you wont be X less, I'll give you my shiny red X for free if we make a deal.

Just curious. The green color you got is like I remember it, but some of the 1300 speciale i've seen seams to have a lighter green tint. Perhaps its just the light in pictures? Or are there several variations on the green metalic

Ummmmm.........??

I guess that is what happens when you get old. People always say that something is the first thing to go, but I can't remember what that something is. :)

.......now, what sort of car was it that we were talking about, Jim???? :confuse2:

cheers, Ian - NZ

Sorry paul

If it was rude of me to ask if you wanted to sell your car.
I'm 43 years old but sometimes the child in me takes control.

Its a rare beatuy so I hope you can forgive my childish behaviour.

Hi Mike

Do you have any more info on Lafayettebruce's car?
It sounds awesome. I wonder what engine, exhaust mods he's got.
And It would be interesting to see if he has done anything to the interior also.

Hi 2re

Thank you for the complement. It is a '76 that I purchased in '79. About '88 I started taking it apart for restoration/modification and I completed it in '06. Somewhat of a garage queen but I do put about 2-3000 miles on a year.
Exhaust is real simple (sort of like it's creator)
Exhaustclose.jpg

Some of the mods I have made are:
Interior:
1500 dash was refurbished
1500 gauge cluster
Momo steering wheel and shift knob
New carpet
Racing Seats
Sabelt seat belts-4 point
Upholstery-Door panels & back panel

Exterior:
Removed both bumpers
1500 engine cover
Paint

Chassis:
Front sway bar
KYB Shocks
Front springs lowered by 1.5”
Stainless tubing for radiator lines

Drivetrain:
Forged pistons (9.2:1?)
PBS big valve head
PBS S1 camshaft
PBS header - ceramic coated
Supertrapp Exhaust
Adjustable timing belt pulley
Single Weber 40 DCNF & proper Intake manifold
Capacitive discharge ignition
Breakerlsss distributor (Bosch)
3.76 Final drive ratio

No worries, I saw it as a compliment.
For me there is also something magical about the colour.
Although I have a hard time matching it, when doing repairs.
I'm sure you will have a great time when your X arrives.
Post a photo when you make it bumperless, with speciale striping...I think it will look cool.

Thanks Bruce

I really love your car not forgetting the sound witch is the best X I've heard and the blue color is one of the best i've seen in the X "fun" category.
So the last few days I've thinking hard about copying your design.
I have from the start visioned recreating my first car, a green metallic speciale. But JimD's wisdom has set me straight. More than anything I want a car that's mine to enjoy.
Now that I've adopted the thought of going bumperless I might as well go crazy with the color too.

I think the color Lafayette Bruce has is great for a bumperless X and I believe the ladder decals will be a perfect match.
I really like his wheels too but I can't steal everything ;-) Besides I think want more chrome.

Do you have color code on that Blue Lafayette Bruce.
Oh, did you have a second color of choice?

PS. I might change my mind on this again.. But I got a good feeling about going this route.

BTW. Can you post/send me some pictures of your car Bruce.
Oh and I've seen the 27 years clip some 50 times now so a new movie would be nice, for us all. And little more noise from the exhaust would be great too :)
