It's about brake fade, unventilated discs are far more prone to fade as they cannot dissipate the heat as quickly.

I have had the X brakes fade on me before while on some hilly fast roads. I think vented fronts are a good idea if you race your car or even a spirited street driver. I have a set for my 75 I will absolutely be putting on.
