In case you don't believe Gilles, the true answer is NO. That is a completely unfounded rumor, no basis to it.
You can occasionally buy "new" X1/9s. There have been two instances recently where late Bertones with basically 0 miles have surfaced. They were stored by someone affiliated with Bertone dealerships and were now sold.
