The seat covers are 39.00 items that are presentable but not exactly to my liking. I'm looking for a seat that is THINNER so I can get it to move back another inch or two.
I also saw a thread (here or Mirafiora) where one owner used a slab of plywood to adapt one kind of seat to the original track. (Older cars are welded in... newer ones unbolt, I understand.)
Anyway... sounded like a simple, strong, and effective solution.
As for carpet... I used my old carpet as a template for 6 foot wide Indoor/Outdoor carpet I bought at Home Depot, in black... I think about 10 feet long, for about 20 bucks. I had to cock the original carpet for the best fit and cut it out. (Cut the original MOLDED carpet in "strategic" areas so it will lay flat... notch the new carpet to conform and glue down with 3M spray Contact Adhesive, Formula 77 or 78)
I believe the only "Patch" was a kick panel on the passanger's side.
I was quite pleased as the floor mats take MOST of the abuse and the carpet doesn't NEED to wear well... just look good... and I believe it does.
This 10 foot length also supplied a dash cover, a "headliner" in the top, and two floor mats in the front and rear trunks... I may still have a bit left over...
As for dye... I used Duplicolor Fabric and Vinyl "paint" for the dash, door panels, and many other plastic parts. Plasticote makes some also... and in many colors, whereas Duplicolor appears to only make semigloss & flat black, a beige, blue, and grey.
I believe Plasticote is a PAINT and works well on some plastics... But I feel the Duplicolor really is a DYE and works better on materials and flexible vinyls. I have had some flaking with the Plasticote.
Also... the Duplicolor really stains your hands... whereas the Plasticote comes off readily. I'd recommend using gloves... and I'd also recommend replacing your carpet... as it'll take a few cans of dye to do your carpet (10-15 bucks) an for 20... ya got new!
