Carpet replacement and interior cleanup?

Thanks for adding to the thread @Dr.Jeff. My car currently has an indoor/outdoor carpet the previous owner's mechanic had an car interior shop install for him. They even added a rubber pad for a dead pedal with the logic it would get more wear than other parts. For the first 22 or so years, it looked really good, but finally general wear and tear, plus sun exposure took its toll.

Regarding the eBay carpet kit that was linked previously.

I took a quick look on eBay and see two sellers offering such 'cut and sewn' kits. One is the same as linked earlier (seller "thecarpetcoshop" in the UK); total shipped for it is about $310 for black (other colors are higher). The other listing is described similar to the first (seller "carpets4you2010" in Germany), total shipped is $263, also in black. I haven't checked the current price from Newark but back when I last dealt with him it was about half those eBay ones (molded, not cut and sewn), with choice of colors. Again, it depends on your goals.

I have been unable to find dry ice in my area so I started to remove the dampener with a heat gun. Not the way. I ended driving an hour each way to find dry ice. What a difference! a couple of taps with a mallet and tar pops right off.

I used the center seam, the panel behind the seat and the hand brake as my reference. I marked out and cut the handbrake slot with the carpet out of the car. Cutting the carpet with a hot knife works great.
I used carpet tape to anchor the carpet when ever possible. I used carpet glue in places that required a stronger hold. I removed the gas pedal to install the carpet. Overall it came out okay. I think I could do a better job if the padding was separate. I know I could have done a better job if the carpet were in separate sections. With a one piece carpet, pulling a corner may throw off other sections of the carpet. Thank god for mats. :p
The carpet and padding from MWB is high quality. I wish they made the carpet in sections.

Nice call on the carpet tape and hot knife, wish I had thought of those when I did it. Lets see the finished job.

Could be better. I will keep it until the fall then redo and cut as necessary. I want to get the car back on the road by Father's day
