Cat to Muffler Slip Joint

How much are the three springs supposed to be compressed when the unit is assembled? I'm assuming they are there to allow some flex in the system so welded joints won't stress fracture. I was going to tighten them untill fully compressed then back off one turn. Does that sound OK?

You got it.

That is about right as the joint needs to flex. If you compress them down tight you will loose the flex and the exhaust system will crack some where else on the pipe.
