The modification you can see is actually a square hole cut out from the hood. The radiactor cowl underneath has been modified by cutting out another hole and building a substantial "funnel" out of sheet metal (aluminium from memory) and riveting it onto the remains of the cowl. The box funnel is topped off with pressed sheet metal (with the small vents). The edge of the box is fitted with a small gauge rubber seal strip to prevent the hood lifting at speed (a la stratos). There are a couple of other hood mods that aren't so obvious. The solid bearing mounts for the suspension are actually raised by about 1.5" to maintain the suspension travel and lower the car. There are two round cut-outs in the hood (one on each side) over the suspension mounts as the new mountings actually protrude very slightly through the hood, but are covered over with what looks like a plastic saucer. (I'm going to have problems with this when it comes to scrutineering as it does technically alter the silhouette but there isn't much I can do about it at the moment)
