I live in Nashville and would be very interested in a SE chapter. My schedule is a bit hectic generally but would love to participate whenever I can. I have noticed that there seems to be several folks in the TN, GA, AL and Carolinas who share this affliction and think that there is a base for a membership. I would encourage everyone to chime in with their interest (as Tom, Brett and Steve have already done).
As for driving the dragon, where is this beast? I don't think that I will be available in March (I will be doing a Pediatric Surgery month at Vanderbilt) but would love to take the spin when I get the chance.

Mike, The road known as "Dragon's Back" is a stretch of HWY 129 from the Tennessee/North Carolina state line at Deal's Gap, west to Lake Chilhowee. The Dragon is 11.3 miles and 321 turns through the woods along a ridge in the Smokey Mountains. Mostly 2nd and 3rd gear stuff in an X1/9. This is probably one of the greatest roads every discovered for driving an X1/9. At the FFO'99 Russ McBride and I made runs through Dragon's Back, at speed, with a pair of Xs equipped with video cameras. Great fun!
The Best runs are made at 7:00 am when there is no traffic. The scenery ain't bad either. We had a blast playing there in '98 and '99.
To find it on a map, locate Knoxville, then go due south to Marysville. Find the junction of 411 and 129 just south of Marysville and follow it east to the state line. That's it.

I live in Nashville and would be very interested in a SE chapter. My schedule is a bit hectic generally but would love to participate whenever I can. I have noticed that there seems to be several folks in the TN, GA, AL and Carolinas who share this affliction and think that there is a base for a membership. I would encourage everyone to chime in with their interest (as Tom, Brett and Steve have already done).
As for driving the dragon, where is this beast? I don't think that I will be available in March (I will be doing a Pediatric Surgery month at Vanderbilt) but would love to take the spin when I get the chance.

Mike, The road known as "Dragon's Back" is a stretch of HWY 129 from the Tennessee/North Carolina state line at Deal's Gap, west to Lake Chilhowee. The Dragon is 11.3 miles and 321 turns through the woods along a ridge in the Smokey Mountains. Mostly 2nd and 3rd gear stuff in an X1/9. This is probably one of the greatest roads every discovered for driving an X1/9. At the FFO'99 Russ McBride and I made runs through Dragon's Back, at speed, with a pair of Xs equipped with video cameras. Great fun!
The Best runs are made at 7:00 am when there is no traffic. The scenery ain't bad either. We had a blast playing there in '98 and '99.
To find it on a map, locate Knoxville, then go due south to Marysville. Find the junction of 411 and 129 just south of Marysville and follow it east to the state line. That's it.
