Ok, and humour me here. Heater valve open means bottom two levers to the left correct??

The middle lever controls the heater valve on a non-AC car. Doesn't matter where the other to levers are set unless you want to feel the heat while bleeding. All that's necessary id to have the valve open (lever positioned to the left as you said) so that coolant can travel thru the whole system.

When I bleed mine I park with the left front wheel (drivers side) higher than the others.That also slants the rad top so the air won't be trapped,,my thinking at least.
