we replaced the engine mounts. The lower mount seems to have the transmission shifted at an angle slightly rearward...not only is the shift linkage binding, but when going over bumps, the grinding sound I am hearing is the passengers side inner CV joint actually coming into contact with the frame support that the lower tranny mount is attached to -

What to do???????

The car is on the lift as we speak - hopefully awating some ideas!

CV spinning and hitting the support you say ? BIG mismatch......

If it is not adjusted right the passenger CV makes contact. I can't remember, but I think if you center the bolts in the slotted holes it'll work.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->I have not contacted the parts supplier yet (I bought these before Christmas, and was just getting around to installing them - so I doubt I will have any recourse convincing a supplier of that anyway. I did check again and we do not see any "slot" type of adjustment. It looks like there is one hole in each location that is the correct size for the bolt. The engine/trans. seems to be sitting too far back (If you looked at a cross section on the timing end, the engine would be canted back towards the trunk. This is what I beleive has been causing my difficult shifting (linkage entering the transmission at the wrong angle) and of course the CV joint bottoms out on the transmisson support part of the frame (what the lower munt actually bolts to). We tried adjusting and retightening the dogbone, but everything dropped back down when we took the jack out. Temporarily, we have raised the the engine up with the jack and placed a small bock of wood between the tranny case and the frame. Of course there is no dampening of vibrations, but it shifts better and there is no scraping of the CV. I am sure it is just a matter of time before the block breaks or falls out, though and then we are back to square one. BTW - this patented technique of engine mount manipulation REALLY enhances your driving experience through increased vibration engine noise through the cabin - I highly recommend it if you REALLY want to hear and feel your engine as you drive!! HAHA!

Any thoughts on what to do next?

As for the time lapse from date of receipt to date of installation, might not necessarily be a problem: I bought an ignition switch in fall of 1999 that I didn't wind up needing to install til last spring, at which point I had a problem with it (parking light circuit stayed on when key was removed). When I explained this to the vendor (Vicks, God bless 'em) they recognized the problem as being from a bad batch of switches that were sold around the time I bought mine, and gave me full credit for it. So it can't hurt to try.
