My car would not stop overheating like that, but after i bled the radiator it ran fine.

1. Use regular jack and lift car sideways.
2. I believe there are two 13mm nuts to remove and the brace and radiator just about falls out.
3. Loosen the two hoses, unplug fan, ease it down and out.
4. With a garden hose and a rag to seal it... backflush the radiator... and back flush lines back to the engine. This should clear any obstructions.
5. Remount hoses to radiator... LEAVE IT ON THE GROUND... and fill the reservoir tank and engine. When full, then lift the radiator back into place. There should not be any air trapped in it this way.
You didn't say WHY he needed to refill it... where is the coolant going??? (Stant 229 radiator cap at 13 lbs if its going out the overflow... )
The 'stat though, is something I would reinstall or replace. It also CONTRIBUTES to cooling by allowing the water TIME to cool in the radiator. Without it... water can circulate TOO fast and get hotter and hotter.

Thinking on this more... 5 minutes is NOT much time if that is the LITERAL time it takes to overheat.
If I blow a water pump belt it'll overheat in a MINUTE!
My car doesn't seem to require a fan operation at all except in summer months and will take upwards to 20 or 30 minutes to cycle on at an idle in the garage.
FIVE minutes, hot hose and cool hose... DOES sound like an obstruction ISOLATED in the radiator.
Back flushing with a hose should tell... if its the problem... best a radiator shop...or I have used Pool Acid from a supermarket and let her soak for a half hour!!!
Can't think of anything else...

If the hose on top is pouring stuff back in no blockage. If the radiator is clogged buy loose junk or a air pocket, don't laugh, remove the grill and kick it. Been there done that.

My car would not stop overheating like that, but after i bled the radiator it ran fine.

1. Use regular jack and lift car sideways.
2. I believe there are two 13mm nuts to remove and the brace and radiator just about falls out.
3. Loosen the two hoses, unplug fan, ease it down and out.
4. With a garden hose and a rag to seal it... backflush the radiator... and back flush lines back to the engine. This should clear any obstructions.
5. Remount hoses to radiator... LEAVE IT ON THE GROUND... and fill the reservoir tank and engine. When full, then lift the radiator back into place. There should not be any air trapped in it this way.
You didn't say WHY he needed to refill it... where is the coolant going??? (Stant 229 radiator cap at 13 lbs if its going out the overflow... )
The 'stat though, is something I would reinstall or replace. It also CONTRIBUTES to cooling by allowing the water TIME to cool in the radiator. Without it... water can circulate TOO fast and get hotter and hotter.

Thinking on this more... 5 minutes is NOT much time if that is the LITERAL time it takes to overheat.
If I blow a water pump belt it'll overheat in a MINUTE!
My car doesn't seem to require a fan operation at all except in summer months and will take upwards to 20 or 30 minutes to cycle on at an idle in the garage.
FIVE minutes, hot hose and cool hose... DOES sound like an obstruction ISOLATED in the radiator.
Back flushing with a hose should tell... if its the problem... best a radiator shop...or I have used Pool Acid from a supermarket and let her soak for a half hour!!!
Can't think of anything else...

If the hose on top is pouring stuff back in no blockage. If the radiator is clogged buy loose junk or a air pocket, don't laugh, remove the grill and kick it. Been there done that.
