Engine compartment firewall/Insulation

True Classic
Hey Guys,

I have an original and complete engine bay firewall/insulation blanket, taken from the rear of the X1/9 engine bay.
This is the siver foil bit that usually falls apart as soon as you look at it!
First time I have ever got one out complete and undamaged. This has to be pretty rare.
I have no idea what this is worth so am open to offers.
See the photos for an idea of how good this is. I am in the Uk but ship worldwide, this will be carefully packed to avoid damage, using a courier.

Parting out two X1/9's plus have a garage and shed full of stuff from previous cars. Any thing you need just ask. My email is reddemon*sky.com or PM me.

You should make a trace of the outline, then you could sell that too! I ended up replacing mine butdid it in pieces so I coudl match the outline better! That looks in great nic for original!

Template....

Hello sledghammer,

has there been any further progress on this?

I'm still quite interested in this template.

Not so much in a rush to get things done as I'm still in and out of Afghanistan on a regular basis. I'll be done this gig soon enough, and will be able to concentrate a bit more on my X repairs.

Thanks again,

You guys!

Old news... This was covered months ago.

The template... (collaboration between K Mead and myself) Get (below) in full size HERE:

Oops.....

my mistake.....I was going through some of my old posts and noticed that there hadn't been any further posts.

Missed that other thread entirely. Sorry folks.

I must say that this template is AWESOME.:excited:

What an excellent resource we have here.:woot:
Keep up the great work.....makes it easy for all X owners.

Thanks guys....

I used...

One layer of Boom Mat Floor and Tunnel Shield II for the stamped metal facing.

Laminated with one layer of Perfect Fit McDonald Thermozite to get the right thickness.

Using the Autocad template downloaded from Xweb I had the Boom Mat laser cut because cutting that metal/fiberglass by hand would be a royal PITA.

Boom Mat and Thermozite are fiber based insulation which will still absorb moisture, correct?

Probably...

...but so was the stuff I pulled off. It lasted 40 years. I painted the firewall with urethane paint, so I think it'll be OK.

Here we go....

Today is the day. Harder than it looks due to the fact that the template is 2D and the panel is 3D.

Wish me luck.

We adjusted it for the 3D nature of the original, if you cut it out flat you should be all set.

Let us know if you run into any issues or things that could be better on the template. We can adjust the template with relative ease.

Thanks

Karl
