Just after buying it driving home enjoying it immensely and suddenly no power. picked up again I thought ( hopefully ) just a one off. Next day drove about 2k and complete cut out wouldn't start for about an hour 1500 VS no FI. I have put in an inline fuel filter between the fuel pump and carb. Seems to have helped however I can feel it cutting out beyond about 2000 revs.I have had the fuel tank out and cleaned it out. I have also bought manual choke which I will fit tommorow. If yes... then your pump should be OK.
Now remove the top of the air cleaner (3 - 10mm nuts) and first stuff a couple of little rags down the throats of the carb.
Next, look down between the two throats and loosen (but do not attempt to remove) the 4 brass metering rods "thingies"!
With a clean rag on the deck lid, remove each of the metering rod thingies with needle nosse pliers and keep them in the ORDER that they belong in.
Each may look like one piece but I think they all come apart in two or three pieces.
Carefully pull them apart and clean them with another rag. There should be an obvious amount of dirt, or grease or varnish type slime if this is the problem. I actually had some bits of sand that useta intermittently clog these orifices.
DO NOT use any thing like pins to clean them, nylon brushes are OK.
I also would use air pressure into the carb holes left by the thingies and blow out the carb.
Reassemble and try it. If it works, then I'm afraid this is usually only a temporary fix.
Its best to pull the carb and boil it out and rebuild it, add another new fuel filter in line with this one and eventually you'll not have a problem anymore.
