I am contemplating building one.

Yep ... Wayne built a test stand

Wayne built a test stand from a parts X. He put the engine bay on legs and added a rad and all the other necessities to make it run. Looks like he has an instrument cluster bolted on there too.

why not just use a fiat x19? I guess I don't see the value of this.

I don't know. Access to the motor is only slightly better than in the car.

For the record I will be testing an 850 motor.

I have one.

It allows me to get better access to the engine compartment without destroying my original painted 1979 X. Good for test fitting and mods.

Works for me.
