I've been burned twice by bayless.
I have done business with them that was
resonable, definitely a few hundred dollars
worth, and it amazes me they will try to
screw me over the small stuff.
First burn was for some X1/9 lock parts.
When I ordered, I was quoted $6 for a couple
of lock parts. After months they told me they
were backordered, and now they cost $32.
AFTER I ORDERED THEM FOR $6, THEY CHARGED
ME ANOTHER $26 !! Well the backorder never
arrived and they refunded the money - to
my account at bayless and not to my pocket.
Well like a fool another order to use most
of the credit, then 3 years go by, and they
give me a hard time when I tried to redeem the
rest of the credit (like 5 bucks!).
Second burn was a cap for a brake fluid reservoir.
I believe they were in the catalog for $20,
I call and it's $40. F&$%#$ I need one so OK.
It shows up and it's used. Well used and nobody
mentioned to me "Yeah we're gonna double the
price and give you something that's only a
hair better than what you have."
Argh. Anyway that's my frustration with those
goobers. (I won't get into personal peeves
with one catalog every 5 years with no updates
and charging everyone for it and a seperately
documented price list...)
I am focusing all of my Icar business back to
the smaller Mom&Pop (and Chris&Genny!) shops.
Nothing is worth the frustration of having wrong
or poorly-described critical parts trucked in.

I was getting ready to drop the engine to the X1/9 I have been preparing to build into a Prototipo replica. I wanted to drain the oil from the engine. I called Bayless to get a drain plug wrench. Well, I find out that the $5.00 wrench (in the catelogue)is going to cost me $26.00 because they only ship. No counter service.
I live 30 minutes from Bayless, and planned to spend about $6000.00 in engine, transmission, body parts, and other goodies and I can't pick up the wrench.
I asked if there was anyway we could work this thing out. No. I asked what size is the wrench. They couldn't say.
I went home, measured the plug, drove to Graingers (15 minutes away) and bought a 12mm allen wrench. Saved $11.00 and Art Bayless lost $6000.00.

I've been burned twice by bayless.
I have done business with them that was
resonable, definitely a few hundred dollars
worth, and it amazes me they will try to
screw me over the small stuff.
First burn was for some X1/9 lock parts.
When I ordered, I was quoted $6 for a couple
of lock parts. After months they told me they
were backordered, and now they cost $32.
AFTER I ORDERED THEM FOR $6, THEY CHARGED
ME ANOTHER $26 !! Well the backorder never
arrived and they refunded the money - to
my account at bayless and not to my pocket.
Well like a fool another order to use most
of the credit, then 3 years go by, and they
give me a hard time when I tried to redeem the
rest of the credit (like 5 bucks!).
Second burn was a cap for a brake fluid reservoir.
I believe they were in the catalog for $20,
I call and it's $40. F&$%#$ I need one so OK.
It shows up and it's used. Well used and nobody
mentioned to me "Yeah we're gonna double the
price and give you something that's only a
hair better than what you have."
Argh. Anyway that's my frustration with those
goobers. (I won't get into personal peeves
with one catalog every 5 years with no updates
and charging everyone for it and a seperately
documented price list...)
I am focusing all of my Icar business back to
the smaller Mom&Pop (and Chris&Genny!) shops.
Nothing is worth the frustration of having wrong
or poorly-described critical parts trucked in.

I was getting ready to drop the engine to the X1/9 I have been preparing to build into a Prototipo replica. I wanted to drain the oil from the engine. I called Bayless to get a drain plug wrench. Well, I find out that the $5.00 wrench (in the catelogue)is going to cost me $26.00 because they only ship. No counter service.
I live 30 minutes from Bayless, and planned to spend about $6000.00 in engine, transmission, body parts, and other goodies and I can't pick up the wrench.
I asked if there was anyway we could work this thing out. No. I asked what size is the wrench. They couldn't say.
I went home, measured the plug, drove to Graingers (15 minutes away) and bought a 12mm allen wrench. Saved $11.00 and Art Bayless lost $6000.00.
