Fiber optic illumination of the dash controls

Do the later cars have a different type of display than the one shown above?
I don't have a picture of it, but it is a little different. However for the most part it's similar. There are two (at least) styles of fiber optics on the later X's. The earlier ones have holders that are larger than what you car has, but the later ones have an even larger holder that is plastic and apparently intended to act as a diffuser.

On my '79 that panel ("close for defrost") is lit up with a fiber optic lead, and yes it is dim - as are all of the displays. So I'm converting everything to LED's as I go through the electrical system. Initially I was only going to replace the fiber optic bulb with a LED and retain the 'optics'. But after doing more mods to the dash I decided to just change all of it to LED's. That's how I know the incandescent bulb holder and the fiber optic holders are interchangeable; I have enough spare incandescent holders to simply replace all of the fiber optics, then change the incandescent bulbs with LED's. Plug and play with no mods required.
