Runs pretty good, but definatly needs some help cosmeticly. Paint sucks, some surface rust, but not bad. The main thing is the driverside floor board is rusted through. Does anyone have the ability and tools in the Seattle area to weld this for me, and likes to get paid in beer?
This will be a fun car once it is cleaned and a few pieces derusted. I will take pics of it tomorrow and post for all to see.
I will also have lots of spare parts. 2, maybe three center consoles, one maybe 2 luggage racks, and more to be listed in the future.

Have scrounged every web site, catalog, newsletter, microfiche and shop manual I have and cannot find it. Have been offered factory NOS and it may be the one. The one I want was on my 76 X1/9, bolted solid, with widthwise tubing with an oval cross-section. Maybe four bars and a fifth elevated in back. Besides, they were mostly used by the conventional layout folks (MGs, 124s, and the like) 'cause they don't have any real trunk space like the Xs do.
As far as what Derrick has, they are all used, light rust, no pits, chrome, much like you described, but all ROUND, not oval. I would say they wer 5/16 round tubes that bolt on thru the trunk sheet metal either with tabs or jam nuts in the tubes.
I did not see any OVAL ones... but you could call and ask... he's got stuff everywhere!

Here are photos of the racks on the two 1980 Xs I've had. Don't have any for sale or know of any around here, though.
The first pic is of my current X. The second is from the one I had in college. My preference was the older one (second pic). I like them because they give you something to grab when opening the trunk. However, both of mine rub the engine lid when fully open. Just barely, but enough to leave scratches. But they're great for hauling coolers of cold beverages on those hot summer days at the beach/lake
Note on viewing pics - if all you see are the red "x" placeholders (like I usually do), right click on them and view Properties. Then copy and paste the url into the browser address. Hit return to view the pic by itself. Then you can hit the Back button to return to the message. When I do this, the pic mysteriously shows up in the message...

gotta love that three tone orange paint. Nose, doors, and rest of car are all different shades of orange. Wheels are crappy, tires are ok, but are 175/70/13. Will have to get some 185/60's soon. Carb needs to be rebuilt or rejetted, or replaced. I get up to 50mph, and it floods out ant stalls. So that will be my first priority, followed up by timming and alt belts, all the grounds, and replacing/repairing some broken latches. I know have two sets of door panels with out any damned speaker holes cut.

Does anyone have the ability and tools in the Seattle area to weld this for me, and likes to get paid in beer?
This will be a fun car once it is cleaned and a few pieces derusted. I will take pics of it tomorrow and post for all to see.

The one I want was on my 76 X1/9, bolted solid, with widthwise tubing with an oval cross-section. Maybe four bars and a fifth elevated in back. Besides, they were mostly used by the conventional layout folks (MGs, 124s, and the like) 'cause they don't have any real trunk space like the Xs do.
As far as what Derrick has, they are all used, light rust, no pits, chrome, much like you described, but all ROUND, not oval. I would say they wer 5/16 round tubes that bolt on thru the trunk sheet metal either with tabs or jam nuts in the tubes.
I did not see any OVAL ones... but you could call and ask... he's got stuff everywhere!

The first pic is of my current X. The second is from the one I had in college. My preference was the older one (second pic). I like them because they give you something to grab when opening the trunk. However, both of mine rub the engine lid when fully open. Just barely, but enough to leave scratches. But they're great for hauling coolers of cold beverages on those hot summer days at the beach/lake
Note on viewing pics - if all you see are the red "x" placeholders (like I usually do), right click on them and view Properties. Then copy and paste the url into the browser address. Hit return to view the pic by itself. Then you can hit the Back button to return to the message. When I do this, the pic mysteriously shows up in the message...

I could cut them out in such a way that you could lay them in place and pop-rivit or sheet metal screw them in. With the proper tar sealing it may work. Let me know and I will cut them out for you.
