Anyone board this weekend would get a couple beers on me at the local tavern (in Edmonds area). Thanks in advance...and now onto the speedometer cable..

I got my speedo cable installed, and it seems to be working. It was clicking for the first say 15 miles, but now it seems quiet, and not jumping around, so I will keep my fingers crossed....and I pulled out the digital camera to photograph the steps, and found that this time the memory card was in the card reader at work...dammit!!!<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Bad ground, or corroded connector(s) at fuse panel?

Also, my dome light will not come on when the doors are open,

bad door pin ground? pull it & clean the contact with the car body & the wire connector...

and my radiator cooling fan will not come on at all(manual togle switch on stearing coloum don't work sniff).

Get under the nose & locate the sensor on left hand side (when viewed from beneath) and make sure it is properly connected. If so, then unplug it & take the wires (the ones attached to the car, not the sensor) and plug them together. Now does the fan come on when key is on?

Do these items possible share the same ground?

If you mean the car body, then yes
tongue.gif
otherwise I don't think they do...

Also, my brake lights do not work. They are not getting any power at all.

I assume you pulled the bulbs out & cleaned the corrosion off of the termonals inside the fixtures?

under the dash however, right by the brake pedal plunger thingy, there is plenty of power. So it has to be somewhere between the pedal and the lights. My tale lights and blinkers and back-up lights work, but nothing else.

Check the brake light wires inside the rear trunk & make sure they are connected?

Is there an inline fuse I should be looking for?

No, not that I know of - just the fuse on the fuse panel. Check in general the condition of connections on the back of the panel, and the contacts where the fuses touch. If crappy, you can clean with wd-40 and some small wire brush...

Just some blind stabs, since no one else has tried to tackle this post yet. Any more symptoms? Let me know if any of this helps!

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->For all my lights I have checked the fusebox, cleaned off the fuses and connectors, and cleaned the light sockets with with WD40 and a screwdriver.
For the head light, it looks like the connector my just be bad, but I am not entirly sure. When I turn on the brights both headlights go out... well my working head light goes out.
For the dome light, I really have not done anything yet.
The brake lights, I took the entire tail assemply out (breaking it, thank you Eric for bringing me a replacment this next weekend), I checked and cleaned all the wires and connectors, and with the break pedal depressed, I get no juice thru the wire. I have checked the wires as far as I can, but to no avail.

As for my speedometer cable, 81 miles this time before it broke. that is almost 6 times further than previously. I am giving up on that one. After I fix my lighting problem, I will have it done by a Fiat mechanic.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Hi Carl-

I have a couple of thoughts for you.

As far as the brake lights go... run a test wire from the front to the trunk - if the bulbs, sockets, etc are good, you should have plenty of light then. If it doesn't work, you have a problem elsewhere. If it does work, just run new wire... it will be easier than trying to track down the fault in the existing wire (purists forgive me, for I know not what I do
happy.gif
)

Speedo cable... once - ok, maybe you got a bad one... twice, I don't think so.

Did you re-use the original housing and simply put the new cable through that? It's the easy fix, but if the housing has a break or burr in it, it could cause you lots of problems.

When you removed the cable, did you pay attention to where the brake was? It may help you trace the problem. If you put in new housing, is it possible that you have a kink, or a bend to sharp for the cable to spin?

Good luch and keep us posted.

As for the speedo cable, I did my very best to put it in with out kinking it or bending it the wrong way or too far. I found out that the first one that brok after install was because of a bad gromit, and it rubbed up against a bare metal hole. I replaced that, and when this one went bad, I checked there first thing, and the gromit and cable look fine.
