Hood hooks

Does any one know what these hooks are on my hood?

Oops, I guess you fixed the link. They line up with a couple of pins welded onto the inner fenders, and stop the back of the hood from coming through the windshield and taking your head off in a front end collision.

But alot of x's I see don't have them.

I think only '79 on have those. They are really annoying because the hood likes to catch on the posts when you try to open it. The hood will still fold in a accident without them. I think they just became a federal requirement for all cars in the US.

As was said...

Since they are hinged at the front... in the event of an accident the slots would engage in posts and crumble the hood instead of it coming straight through the windshield.... theorectically.

Their there so you don't decapitate yourself in a head on collision...
