When the lights are down, they don't line up square with the hood and nose. The manuals don't address this adjustment, even though I do see two screws on each side that attaches the can swivel joint (I know it has a real name...) to the car. Before I break something, anyone out there who has aligned these assemblies?

Two of these are for adjusting the aim of the lamp itself when the pod is raised. The remaining adjustment is for the length of the cam arm that raises and lowers the pod. This last one is the one you want - you just need a spanner and a lot of patience. You need to make the adjustment with the electrics disconnected just in case you accidentally set the motors in motion (which can potentially take your fingers off).<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

In my case the pods are out of alignment with the rest of the bodypanels; one is too far back and touching the hood, the other is crooked. If these are not adjustable, but possibly damaged from a former nose crunch, I could change them out with others from my parts car. All of the fixings for the pivot of the pods is fixed and (to the best of my knowledge) not adjustable. What you describe does sound like crash damage, in which case it may be necessary to have the mounting plates cut and moved if you want to get them in the correct positions. Better still would be to make the fixings adjustable by removing the captive nuts on the bodywork (I think they're captive) and put slots in instead to allow adjustment. It shouldn't be too difficult to do as it is a relatively frequent repair job (for crashed X1/9's) and I've seen some very well restored examples with perfect shut-lines....<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

You can see them through the access hole, but really can't get to them without removing the headlight (bulb). My problem now is that the headlight retainer screws have rusted and there is no way to remove them (using a screwdriver). Any help out there?
I know the pop-up is adjustable from this point because one of the bolts is missing and the hole the bolt goes through is oversize- to play with the positioning. So, I'll adjust away- if I can get the bulb out!<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

If you look closely at the crome, there is a slotted hole beside the screw. Hard to explain in words for some reason...hope you understand and i'm sure Ulix or Mac could add some help.

Soak 'em in WD-40 or similar and go at 'em with the visegrips.
Maybe I'm nuts, but I thought you could reach those bracket bolts from inside the headlight motor access compartment without having to remove the bulb? Been a while now & I can't remember...
Anyway, you guys are right ( sorry Julian
) - the pod shut-line is slightly adjustable by loosening those bracket bolts because the brackets have slightly oversized holes. Sometimes though they are just not big enough (especially if the car has been bent) in which case you would take Julian's route to fix, or you could remove the brackets & try to make the holes larger. In my case the pods are out of alignment with the rest of the bodypanels; one is too far back and touching the hood, the other is crooked. If these are not adjustable, but possibly damaged from a former nose crunch, I could change them out with others from my parts car. All of the fixings for the pivot of the pods is fixed and (to the best of my knowledge) not adjustable. What you describe does sound like crash damage, in which case it may be necessary to have the mounting plates cut and moved if you want to get them in the correct positions. Better still would be to make the fixings adjustable by removing the captive nuts on the bodywork (I think they're captive) and put slots in instead to allow adjustment. It shouldn't be too difficult to do as it is a relatively frequent repair job (for crashed X1/9's) and I've seen some very well restored examples with perfect shut-lines....<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

You can see them through the access hole, but really can't get to them without removing the headlight (bulb). My problem now is that the headlight retainer screws have rusted and there is no way to remove them (using a screwdriver). Any help out there?
I know the pop-up is adjustable from this point because one of the bolts is missing and the hole the bolt goes through is oversize- to play with the positioning. So, I'll adjust away- if I can get the bulb out!<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

If you look closely at the crome, there is a slotted hole beside the screw. Hard to explain in words for some reason...hope you understand and i'm sure Ulix or Mac could add some help.

Soak 'em in WD-40 or similar and go at 'em with the visegrips.
Maybe I'm nuts, but I thought you could reach those bracket bolts from inside the headlight motor access compartment without having to remove the bulb? Been a while now & I can't remember...
