Attended a memorial for Pete Giddings April 2019. Pete was special in many ways, one of the very few that flogged his vintage race cars in ways they were originally intended at vintage race events. Held great distain and dislike for holding vintage race cars as museum trophy items.. Yes, Pete wrecked many times these vintage race cars at vintage races.. each and every time, Pete and crew put them back together to be race again..
"Met Pete some years ago driving up to Thunderhill Raceway. While on the road, this beat up white van was towing an Alfa Romeo 8C on an open trailer. Did a double take as the possibility of a car fan towing an Alfa Romeo 8C Grand Prix car was small. We pulled into a rest stop, some time passed and that 8C on an open trailer was parked in the same rest stop. Had to go over for a look-see. Much to my shock and surprise, that Alfa Romeo 8C was the real deal. That was how a friendship was formed with Pete Giddings. Since then at every vintage race, would always stop by to see what Pete brought to race. Last time with Pete was at Laguna Seca with his Lancia D24. Later that day we spent much time together sharing stories and discussing vintage Italian race cars. These times and memories with Pete will now be cherished in special ways as Pete was special in so many ways."
