Degree wheel

Where can I get a degree wheel for the X at?

I've never heard of the spark plug evaluation called a plug chop before, but I do know what you’re talking about. I checked them when the exhaust was on and it was not running well and they indicated that it was running rich (wet). I haven't checked it since I've dropped the exhaust and it has been running better.

My father had a saying that he drilled into us growing up "If you can read, you can do anything." So, I've been doing a lot of reading. I've got to degree in this cam before I do anything else and the list of adjustments and checks are many. I just need to get the proper tools first. (i.e. dial indicator and degree wheel)

Thanks for all your advice and I'll keep you posted on my progress.

I was responding to some emails and had a bit of time to look at the board and respond. Here is some info:

I think I used this one - see download:

I printed it up and pasted it to some cardboard. I drew the diameter of the crank pulley lip and timing mark on the wheel and cut it out. I hot-melt glue it in place and use a paperclip as my indicator. It is cheap but effective. When I am done I just pop it off and pop off the hot melt glue so I can use it again. I have had it for several years now and it works great.

Check your local production supply places for the indicator. I made the plate the mag base rests on and it is highly recommended.

Not sure where you are but there is probably a Harbor Freight near by.

Thanks for the info!

There happens to be a Harbor Freight about 10 miles from my house!

Thanks again,

Update

My learning curve has been steep the last couple of weeks, but I've made major progress.

First off, I degreed in the cam. It was kind of a pain in the arz, but got it dialed in and it was about 1/2 tooth off (or more).

It ran a lot better.

Second, I bought a Weber book and began reading. Then I bought a synchrometer and began tuning. WOW, were they out of balance!! I was basically running on two cylinders. The last person to tune them had all the air bypass screws about 1/2 way out. The carbs were not even balanced between each side, not to mention between each carb.

It runs much, much better.

Everyone who commented that the car just didn't sound right were correct. It sounds MUCH better now and I can't wait to take it for a short spin down to the corner to see how its running. I have an appointment on Wednesday to get an exhaust system installed at the local race shop. It'll be 2 1/4" mandrel bent with a flex joint, high flow cat (to be legal), Borla muffler and 2 1/2 exit pipe. It should sound sweet.

Here is a video

Thanks again to everyone who helped me out.
