K & N Air filters

Checked the 'best of' section in regard air filters which lists the K & N 'E-2710' as the air filter to use for a Carbed X1/9.

Checked K & N wesite and their are two types of filter which look the same.

The K & N E-2710 is for the 1300 X1/9 and the K & N E-9122 is for the 1500 X1/9 (carbed version).

There is a diference in the spec's (see below). It does say that the E-9122 is for a carbed EU car, but then it does not ofer a USA 1500 eqivilent.

Why two air filters? If someone puts a 1300 air filter in a 1500 car will it make any difference?

Just looking at the data

The differences are so minor that I don't think it would matter. To be sure, I would give them a call. When I ordered filters for my dual 40's they were very helpfull.

Air filter differences - 1300 to 1500 carbed

Duncan, my X is a carbed 1300, Euro spec and uses an air filter element that is approx 5-6mm less thick than the one specified for a 1500 X Euro spec.
I have a Beck/Arnley air filter element that was SUPPOSED to be OK for a 1300, but is just that little bit too thick (in height). It is evidently for a 1500 carbed X. All other dimensions are the same, but the canister lid on my 1300 won't close down fully with this thicker filter element.
A real nuisance as the two elements are very similar to look at initially, but you don't realise the difference until you try to fit it. :(

Duncon... CONGRATS on using the Best Of data FIRST!

I posted that ions ago... and am using a 2710 in my 1500 carbed CA-Spec car.

The fit is a bit snug but to no avail... relative to thhe height and the fit on the "pan" also.

BTW... I love that filter... I didn't believe it would actually make a difference you can actually FEEL... but it does! Well worh the money.

P.S. I also ran a cool air intake to the LEFT SIDE VENT after cutting the air cleaner snorkel back so that a 2 1/2 inchh, 3 foot heater duct could run down to it. Another few ponies to be had! Remember to cut off the "gridwork" off the inside of BOTH side vents for another 25% of available cooling.

Have fun!
