After talking to John Allen at the SCCA autocross on Sunday, Im pretty thankful as he said they were rare as hens teeth. BUT..here's my issue.

The car seems to ride pretty high. It's got alot of space between the tire and the fender, especially at the rear. So...does this car have Konis but with stock springs?? Who knows.

Regardless, even with the ride height being the way it is, the car seems like it leans a WHOLE lot...Could be the springs are so high, the shocks dont get a chance to work right?

I dont know..Im fishing for thoughts here. If anyone knows of a good spring source for Scorpions, let me know. Are they the same as X1/9 springs? Maybe my Konis are fine with the right springs or they may just need a good rebuild.

congratulations on finding Konis!

Shocks aren't supposed to hold you car up, the springs do that. The shock is supposed to keep the spring under control. If you go to stiffer springs, you need stiffer shocks.

It sounds like you have stock springs. You could cut your stock springs to get them both lower and stiffer. On many cars this works well, especially with stiffer shocks. John can probably tell you more.

The Konis should be adjustable for rebound, but you have to remove them to adjust them I think.

I will add that the shocks do not control the amount of lean your car has when cornering. The springs and swaybars (if so equipped) provide that function. If you want your car to lean less, stiffer springs and/or swaybars are in order.

Just lowering the ride height itself will not reduce the amount of lean when cornering.

My Miata on the other hand....is both lower and has FAT adjustable sway bars, stiff Bilstiens and Yok 008RSII tires on it for the street. It just plain HANDLES.

So anyway....
Keep the ideas coming! Im happy about the Konis. I found out something else about the car just recently as well....I'll post separately.

There is a good website on modifying your Scorpion.... I'll have to dig that up for you later. I seem to recall that cutting about 3/4 coil from the front and 1/2 from the rear is just about right. This not only lowers your car but increases the spring rate slightly.

Ulix is correct on adjustint the Konis, you have to disassemble the strut, compress it fully and turn the shaft. You can go from near stock damping to just about solid rebound. Compression is nonadjustable (rebound adjustment actually does affect the compression somewhat). <!-- google_ad_section_end -->

The stock Scorpions rode rather high due to US bumper and headlight height regulations. I cut 1-1/2 coils from the front and 1 coil from the rear. The stock Scorpion springs had the same rate as the Monte Carlo, just taller, so cutting them should stiffen things up a bit. The Scorpions came with front and rear sway bars and from my experience, don't lean much if everything is functioning.

It wasn't for sale, but the offer was too good to pass up, and I didn't have to pay to move it back or hassle with getting it smog certified. So, the Volumex is going in my "new" car. It's a one-owner car with only 35K. I wasn't in the market for it, but I can't pass on a good deal (just ask my wife). I built the tranny and engine and I'm just finishing up prepping the engine compartment prior to dropping in the drivetrain. Just call me "too many projects Mark"<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

A routine water pump replacement led to removing the A/C system and retrofitting a non A/C heater system, which led to removing the interior, which led to "now's a good time to paint the car", which led to converting to the bumperless look. The car's sitting on jack stands in the shop between the 850 and Scorpion projects with all its removable body panels off. Its fully prepped, primed and blocked, ready to spray.

I plan to shoot the car in 272 Chrome Yellow (or maybe a newer, similar color depending on the paint system I decide to go with), bumpers will be either none or the FAZA style 1/2 ladder setup, wheels are magnesium versions of the Scorpion wheels (9 lbs!) with 185/60-13s, and I have a nice set of FAZA type 1 racing seats that came with the Scorpion. Engine parts to date include an IAP header with custom exhaust, FAZA 35/75 cam and a Yugo 1.1 head awaiting modification. - I get tired just thinking about it all.
