You can defiantly do this. I think one of the issues being discussed was the warping at temperature. To solve this is a matter of printing the part with the right plastics that can take the heat. Annealing the parts also help prevent this by relieving stress in the print.Would it be possible to use LIDR and 3d image the parts then convert into a shape file that the printers would work with?
Or did I miss totally the reason for this thread.

If you had a sample badge in hand would you be able to scan it to get the font you desire?I've already searched the web for a 3D file of the X1/9 badge on the trunk, but I couldn't find any. Who can help?
"five speed" or "fuel injection" accepted as this is the text I want to edit. Even the font is special, for sure hand made. I was disappointed that both texts didn't use the same one. I like the "five speed" much more, but before designing or editing a font (everything is possible) I found the rinehart font that fit the best.

Actually not the font is the problem. I like to 3D print the complete badge on my own. It is a unique design and not easy to construct in 3D. Therefor I'm looking for a 3D file (STEP or even STL).If you had a sample badge in hand would you be able to scan it to get the font you desire?
Exact, BASICALLY. That's something you can do with any CAD in minutes. I'm dreaming of an 95% copy of the origin modified with my personal touch.I did a real quick one in tinkercad. is this basically what you are looking for BASICALLY

I don't think I would bother with a 3d scan for this; the third dimension adds very little information. I would scan this on a flatbed scanner and import the result into Inkscape / CorelDraw / Illustrator and clean it up / modify it there. Once the 2d design is done, export the design to a vector format file (.dxf, .svg, ai, etc.) and bring it into a 3d CAD program to create a printable part.I've already searched the web for a 3D file of the X1/9 badge on the trunk, but I couldn't find any. What was the badge design you wanted to make? I'm a 3d sculptor for Mattel, I'm not using a simple CAD program so anything is really possible... I just made this badge for a friend's Sprinter van... Printed in nylon and stainless steel..I've already searched the web for a 3D file of the X1/9 badge on the trunk, but I couldn't find any. Who can help?

You are correct, there are two of them. And yours is a great design with an interesting material mix! What was the badge design you wanted to make? what was the price/lead time like?I received a few connector housings for the square Bertone switches today. I had these printed by JLC3DP.com in China. Both parts are made from Nylon; the white one with selective laser sintering and the grey one with HP's multi-jet fusion. The salt & pepper coloring of the MJF part makes it look quite coarse in photos. In the flesh the parts are very nice. The red part is the original. This is my first stab at these connector housings, and the printed parts work well enough that I will use them as is.

I just have to go in the garage ;-)What are the dimensions of that badge? I don't have an X to measure one... I drive a 128...
I use them for PCB's. A double sided printed circuit board with component print in less than 6 working days, includ shipping to Germany. Fantastic quality and fast service for a few bucks. 3D print should be similar.what was the price/lead time like?
