My Dinner w/Some Fiat Engineers...

Col Haiku

True Classic
"The Idea: I decided to switch tactics, especially since another engineer, one for the Abarth team, sat down. Here's what I was thinking: Fiat should really leverage their relationship with Chrysler and take advantage of all those huge Hemis sitting around to make a mid-engined rally monster like a Renault R5 Turbo or a Shogun or something: stuff a big-ass Hemi in the back of a 500! He got quiet cause they are already planing on making one and they didn't want you to know their secret.

The Response: This one went over pretty well, and the engineer said they'd actually been thinking about the same thing. I was making headway— I could feel it! But just as the new guy was warming up, the other two started whispering to him, and he got an ashen look on his face, and clammed up. "

Nooooooooooo!

That was from the Jalopnik article, Will. But the idea of a hemi stuffed into the back of a 500 is intriguing! I also like the idea of that small pick-up... reminds me of the Rabbit that was out for a year or two.

The Fiat Dupla Strada

I for one am all for world and shared-platform cars, but turning the 500 into something it isn't is kind of ridiculous.

Yes, I wish Fiat would introduce the Strada platform back to the USA. It would be the sole "small truck" on the market. Anyone looked at a Toyota Tacoma lately? They >used< to be small but got Tundra-ized.
