my new parts car...or new project

wcarter4

'74 x1/9
i just bought a '76 X for only $150 for the windshield, never looked at it, was just told its rusty and ran a year ago and all the glass is good. picked it up yesterday and what a surprise, the rust that is bad is the lower right rear corner and a hole in the drivers floor. other then that just minor surface rust where the paint is chipping, NO RUST HOLES!!! opened the front lid and it looked like new except where the battery sits but still not bad. all shock towers look great and the unibody also is great.
looks like my 12 year old son wants it to restore.

Restore it!

From what I see, it looks straight and solid. My second X was a '76 that I put a '81 F.I. motor into, was way fun with the 1500 and the 4:42 4-speed.

I'd ditch the white wall tires though, even if 13's are getting hard to source, I don't think I'm that desperate. Yet:sigh:

My son wants the car, he is only 12, and we together have done both a 124 and my x. He would like to go all out and make an autocross car. I have a line on a rebuilt 1600 motor and I have a trick race set up for the front already.

It looks pretty good from here

That looks like a great deal at $150. Of course, now you need to find another windshield!

A father son project would be very cool indeed. I wish I could get my 19 yr old son interested in working on cars.

my vote restore it

Looking at the pics. Looks way too clean to part out. Have an extra windshield if you need it.

I hate you right now :hmm2:

Looks like a nice little X1/9. Restore that puppy! Lose the white-walls though :dead:

I do agree that I got lucky with this, I guess the title was found now. So I think I'll just give it to my son, he is very excited to be working on his own car instead of my car. With my car planned to be in the road in June, we will start on tearing this one apart and start his restoration
