New Engine Install . . . Timing Issues?

Nice work but don't run it for too long without a ballast resistor or you will burn up the coil (unless it has a built in ballast which I believe 79-> don't). With no ballast, the primary current is around 2X which means power dissipation is around 4X. The ballast spec is 0.85 to 0.95 ohms. It should be easy to find a replacement.

I am currently using an aftermarket coil (1.5ohm). Will stop by at parts store later today and find a ballast resistor to replace, hopefully mine is just bad and not the full cause of the issue.

My brother's old BMW 2002 had some sort of ignition relay that gave full 12v for startup at the coil and then after running would switch to a resister that gave 7.5 volts.
