I don't know how good your experience with your thermostat housing is, but I have had some terrible ones over the years.
And finding new X1/9 specific housings is basically out.
How about making the modifications needed to use the early 128? I found a supplier for tops http://www.fiatplus.com/thermosat-housing-top-pr-287885.html

These take the thermostat we use in the X1/9 http://www.fiatplus.com/aftermarket-thermostat-pr-279304.html,
along with the seal http://www.fiatplus.com/rubber-thermostat-seal-gskt-pr-279303.html
& the gasket http://www.fiatplus.com/thermostat-housing-gasket-pr-287821.html which is available.
Obviously not a direct fit for some years, but it would work.
I just got in samples, but I can get more.
