If you are interested in a similar club in Nova Scotia let me know. It would be great to have swap meets, cruises, ect.

Besides what better way to make sure I'm motivated to finish my current X project

Also I read somewhere in here about a project for a National/North american organisation, this would be one further step to unite all FIAT owner.

I can be contacted at

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Hi Mark! Thanks for the kind words about SeaX. It always warms my heart when people say things like that!
happy.gif

I, too, would love to see a National or Continental X-specific organization here in North America, anyone who has visited the Project USX forum knows exactly how I feel about the idea!
wink.gif

Alas, it seems to just be too BIG a task to make happen at the present time. North America, needless to say, is HUUUUUUUUUGE, and the effort it would take for any of us (or even all of us) to make such an organization become a reality would be equally HUUUUUUUUUGE. So much so, that I am afraid the concept has not moved forward in quite a while.

I personally believe that SeattleX1/9 will either grow over time to cover more regions - and eventually will become that organization itself, OR, the success of SeattleX1/9 in its own 2-State region will inspire others over time to found similar groups in their own areas, thus building up a network of regional X-specific groups - that could then one day collectively form such an organization...

In any case, I doubt it will be happening soon - Yikes!!

Anyway, Daniel is in a cool Fiat club up there. If you can get to his area, or vice versa, I am sure you would have a good time. Or, if you are really looking for some local owners, you could always run an ad in the local newspaper's automotive section:

"X1/9 for sale. Also I want to buy parts & meet other X owners. Ask for Mike: phone 000-0000". You have to say you are selling one or most papers won't let you put it in the "cars for sale" section, which (as we all know) is the best section to find the attention of an Xhead, of course! What Xhead is not always looking to see if there are any X1/9s for sale in the paper?

happy.gif

By the way, I always picture Daniel being the guy who will launch the Canadian portion of the North American X Club - eh, Daniel??

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Defintely let me know what kind of a response you get!

When SeaX was just being founded (in fact, it was before the website even opened) I did exactly that in order to draw some attention to myself & the budding organization.

Actually, one of the first things that was ever posted on our website was a couple of scanned images of the newspaper ads, so folks coming to the site would immediately know they were in the right place
happy.gif

Ours went something like; "Fiat-Bertone X1/9 cars & parts: for sale & wanted! Group of local owners forming NOW www.seattlex19.com or call (206)000-0000"

Not only did I run the ad for a week in the 'cars for sale' section of the Seattle Times/PI, but the week after, I ran it in the "Little Nickel" classifieds (that free paper that you see on the rack in stores etc), and the third week I ran it (without a picture) in the regional "Auto Trader" magazine.

All together I spent close to $100 just for those 3 ads, but just look at what happened as a result !!!
happy.gif
happy.gif

Even at that moment, it was money well spent. I did not even know if anyone would respond. I got just a couple of phone calls, but (because I had included the web address) it really drew a lot of attention to the then-new SeaX website, through which a surprising number of people ended up emailing me to get involved!

If you, as an enthusiast, were to simply run one ad & say you have an X and some parts for sale, then include your phone #, and word the ad to indicate that you are an owner seeking other X enthusiasts in your area, I think even if you just meet 1 or 2 folks from it, it would be worth the time and $! -Mac.

That is fantastic! I wish more folks had this level of motivation. You have got my attention!
happy.gif
Please do tell me what happens next...

Also I was curious, how did you get your own domain name for SeatleX1/9? can the club afford a web hosting service or did you get free services?

The history of our group's web presence - in a nutshell (yeah, right!
tongue.gif
):

When the site started, it was a very very very simple, single static page with a picture of an X, the SeaX logo, contact info & a brief blurb about what we were trying to organize in this area. Initially the entire organization consisted of one member; me. We (I) opened a free email account with http://www.yahoo.com at which to receive/send SeaX emails, and a free "homepage" hosting account with http://www.angelfire.com where the website would first exist. The address to our website was http://www.angelfire.com/wa/seattlex19/index.html ...

So far I had only spent $100 on newspaper ads; all of the web activities were free! That worked for just long enough to get some initial interest generated, but it was soon clear that we (I) would need to buy a domain name in order to really simplify things for all the Xheads that I wanted to be able to find SeattleX1/9!
happy.gif

So I bought, through http://www.siteleader.com (who acted as an agent for us with http://www.networksolutions.com ) the first domain name - http://www.seattlex19.com . I also bought a "domain forwarding" service with them, so not only did we get the address, we got the service: anyone who typed http://www.seattlex19.com into the browser, would hit their server & get automagically forwarded to http://www.angelfire.com/wa/seattlex19/index.html . Easy, and although it did cost some money (close to $100 to get the whole ball rolling), it was worth it to me!
happy.gif
happy.gif

That worked fine for a while, just long enough (see a pattern forming here?) for the site to really 'make an entrance' in the Fiat & X "community" on the web. This was around the time that we created the first "Xweb forums" setup & attached it to the static SeaX site, using another free service from http://www.netbabbler.com . Once that happened, the site slowly began getting busier!

The forums were developing a small but steadily increasing group of folks coming around on a regular basis. The forum pages themselves had banner ads in each page (sound familiar?) BUT NetBabbler had a deal where you could test forums with the ads for free - and if you liked them - you could then buy the ads off of the site!

About this time, the .com entity of SeattleX1/9 was granted non-profit status in the State of Washington. To reflect this new arrangement, the name http://www.seattlex19.com was retired to forwarding duty, and replaced with another purchased domain name, http://www.seattlex19.org ...

The new address was up & running, and the forums were improving by leaps & bounds! I had just decided that the forums were getting busy enough to justify buying the banners off from NetBabbler. Just then, out of nowhere, the host of the static site, Angelfire, instituted a mandatory pop-up & banner ad policy!!! Our entire site was plagued with all these sickening ads that had nothing to do with X1/9s at all
sad.gif

With every single page of the website now flashing panty hose ads, mud wrestling ads, "punch the monkey & win $20" ads (!!) it was time to ACT!! The move was on to hire some server space, so we could move off of the ad-packed Angelfire server!!

It took time, effort, and at this point a good number of people pitched into the kitty (thank you all, you know who you are) - and we did just that! We got a hosting agreement with Burlee Networks at http://www.burlee.com . Yeah, it costs money, but just look at what we have all come together to create here
happy.gif

So just when we got settled into this new hired server arrangement, and my attention returned to "buying off" the remaining ads in the forums, I discovered that, during the Burlee server move, our forum hosting company, NetBabbler, had been bought out!!

http://www.netbabbler.com became http://www.network54.com - and Network54's first official policy change was to sh*tcan the 'ad buyoff' option!! Damn! The forums have been stuck with these d@#& ads ever since, except for the days that their freaky banner-ad server forgets to post them
happy.gif

We still use some spaces on the old free servers, mostly for pictures & things that I upload - like the pics of Ken Hunter's '74, those are on the free server, and the forums here are still free. All of the actual html pages, though, some key image files, a couple of perl scripts & some other misc. stuff are on the hired Burlee server, which also came with a set of whoever@seattlex19.org email accounts! Cool
happy.gif

So did I manage to answer your question???
wink.gif

Yes , I have some free spase on my ISP( 10 Meg) I'll start there. If I get some responces to my ads I'll see about a domain name.

I don't know if I'll get enough X owner around here ( haven't seen many in the last year) to be an X club, but might turn into a FIAT or Italian Club. I hope I get enough X's so that I can Call it the HalifaX1/9 ( Using the X in common to both names, Cute hey!) It sorta takes the form of SeatleX1/9, hope you don't mind.

Cheers
Mike

Everyone said the same thing about SeattleX1/9 back in '98 - "there just aren't enough X1/9s left around here to justify a club"

Well, almost everyone! There was myself, and about 5 other folks who really thought it had potential. Everyone else thought there could not possibly even BE enough X1/9s in the Pacific Northwest to make a group happen like this.

Now it is the year 2000, we are up to 54 members in Washington & Oregon, and that's just members who have registered with the group! I still see "unknown" X1/9s driving on the freeway etc every so often, so I know there are even more than this.

I knew there would be enough owners & friends of the X to make this happen, I always knew, I just didn't know there were this many right here in my corner of the world

Unless one tries, there is no way to know!

Good Luck, I would love to see something similar happen there, and all over the place, XHEADS UNITE!

HalifaX1/9. If you find enough folks to drum up some interest, that will be great! Keep us informed - Mac.
