It has 176,000 miles on it and until now it has always run great. It has always run at 185 to 190 degrees after it warms up. If it tended to heat on real hot days, you could always turn on the heater to cool it off. Recently, it has began to run at 200 to 215 degrees and overheats if I drive it very far. The heater now doesn't really cool it off. I suspect that it may be the themostat. Anybody have similar problems or have any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Michael

    [FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Some thoughts:

    I also have this problem and I think my solution will be another new switch that actually works. Mine cuts out too soon even though it is new.

    1) Have you ever changed the water pump? they do wear out.

    2) Check that your fan switch is working? The factory specs are for the fan to cut in at 198 deg F + / - 4 deg F and stay on until the temperature drops to 189 Deg F (+ / - 4 deg F) If you have an ohm meter and a thermometer you can check its operation by slowly heating the switch up in a pan of water on the stove with the ohmmeter connected. Note the temperature at which the contacts close and the resistance goes to zero. Then take it off the heat and let it cool while stirring with a spatula or something like that and note the temperature that the contacts open and the ohn meter shows a very high reading. Similar result should be obtained by runing the car at a fast idle and see if the fan cuts in an out with appropriate movement of the temperature guage.

    3) Could be the thermostat sticking as you suggest

    4) Could be air in the rad See other posts today about replacing and bleeding rad.

    Could be all of the above!

    Good luck,

    Graham
