Performance clutch kit for a Fiat 850

True Classic
On Tuesday, I had an excellent day at Sydney Motorsport Park where the car performed faultlessly with the "new" gearbox and the new ring and pinion gear. Yesterday at the local Hillclimb it was a different story. The first run went well but on the second run as I changed from first to second the clutch failed. I climbed the hill slowly blowing smoke but after descending all drive was lost.
The clutch plate has done only 800 miles but the pressure plate is the original. Now I have to pull the gearbox again and I will install a performance upgrade clutch kit. I'm looking for suggestions. The car is track only and has twice the original hp.

I saw those Karl. The problem with stuff from the USA these days is the shipping costs. It's interesting that they have such a range for the 850 though. I will probably have to go for a local kit custom-made to suit.

I don't know if you have this, but you can contact this producer...

Thanks. I have the gearbox out and I'm taking the clutch unit and flywheel up to Sydney in the morning to have a custom-made unit just like that.

This is the clutch plate,

pressure plate side. The thrust bearing is fine but will probably be replaced. The pressure plate looks OK but obviously needs more clamping pressure.

I took the clutch and flywheel up to Sydney today to a clutch specialist that comes highly recommended. He was not impressed to see a Fiat clutch! He actually dislikes Fiat and Renault pressure plates and spent a fair bit of time explaining how dangerous they are due to the cast iron disc. Apparently, with more hp they tend to shatter! It was decided it would be easier to import a kit from LMPerformance. I mentioned that I damaged the clutch at the hillclimb but he reckoned it was more likely started a few days earlier at Sydney Motorsport Park on the downshifts!

I have just spent the last hour reviewing youtube videos on Spec clutches. It seems there are a few pissed-off customers that wish they had bought ACT!

There are always peeved customers of performance parts failing when pushing parts to their limits.

Good luck with your choice.

You might look into performance clutch sets for the Autobianchi A112 Abarth cars (1049cc 70HP version). They had their own A112 Cup racing series, with many upgrade parts available.
That clutch is 170mm. The 850 is 160mm and interestingly the clutch plates with the organic pads are only for counterclockwise rotation.
